White Rock Christian Academy students robbed while on mission trip in Guatemala

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A terrifying experience for a group of students on a school mission trip to Guatemala. Eight grade 11 students from White Rock Christian Academy were robbed. The school board says none of the teens on the trip are hurt and now they’re on their way home.

Pastor Mike Schroeder with LIFE Church White Rock which is linked to the school is glad everyone is okay.
“I feel very relieved that of course all the students are accounted for and they’re safe and they have a plan I believe to get back here within the next day or two.”

He says the teens were helping the locals build a bridge and calls the incident “troubling.”

“It is a sobering thought to think that students that are going on a good will mission all indications were that they were pretty safe, all of a suddenly they find themselves being robbed, that’s pretty scary.”

He doesn’t think this should stop members of his community from going on similar charitable trips but it may be a reminder to review policies around safety and security.
