Canucks fall in overtime to the Stars

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Radim Vrbata scored on a powerplay with 1:32 to play in regulation, but John Klingberg tallied the overtime winner as the Vancouver Canucks fell 4-3 to the Dallas Stars at Rogers Arena.

Vrbata had a chance earlier in the third period to put Vancouver up 3-1, but Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen came up with a huge save on the doorstep. That save turned out to be a huge one for the visitors, as the Stars got goals from Patrick Eaves and Tyler Seguin to go up 3-2, before Vrbata tied it up.

Klingberg scored the game winner with a wrister from the slot that beat Eddie Lack with 47 seconds left in the extra period.

Dallas got on the board first with a goal from Jamie Benn just 1:54 into the first period. Nick Bonino responded for Vancouver in the first period, and then Chris Higgins scored on a Canucks powerplay in the second period. The Higgins goal gave the Canucks a powerplay goal in five consecutive games.

With the single point, combined with the Kings’ 4-1 loss to Minnesota, Vancouver is now three points ahead of Los Angeles for second place in the Pacific Division. Both teams have seven games remaining in the regular season, including one meeting against each other.

The Canucks earned just three of a possible six points on their three game homestand. After beating Winnipeg, they lost to Colorado in regulation on Thursday, and followed it up with the overtime defeat against the Stars. Vancouver begins a four-game road trip on Monday against the St. Louis Blues.
