Canucks fall short in third period to lose to the Blackhawks

CHICAGO, IL (NEWS1130) – Jonathan Toews and Marcus Kruger scored goals 2:27 apart in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The result snapped a two-game winning streak for the Canucks.

The Canucks opened their four-game road trip with back-to-back wins in St. Louis and Nashville on Monday and Tuesday. They wrap-up the trip with a matinee against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.

Chicago got on the board first, as Teuvo Teravainen fired one home just seconds after Eddie Lack made a fantastic save on Kruger in close.

Vancouver was able to level the score with a little over a minute to play in the opening period. Derek Dorsett picked off a pass and then fooled defenseman Duncan Keith with a fake shot before firing the puck over the right shoulder of Corey Crawford.

After neither team scored in the second period, Toews put the ‘Hawks ahead for good with 11:56 remaining in regulation. A shot from the point hit something before finding the crossbar, but Toews was there to bat home the rebound for his 26th goal of the season.

Kruger extended the lead shortly after the Toews goal, as he got in behind the Canucks’ defense and beat Lack with a quick move.

Lack made 35 saves in the loss, while Crawford stopped 34 shots for Chicago.
