Transportation plebiscite turnout currently lower in Surrey than Vancouver

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – New data from Elections BC shows just under 125,000 of more than 1.5-million ballots have been returned in Metro Vancouver’s transportation tax plebiscite.

In Surrey just eight per cent of packages have been returned. That’s compared with nearly 18 per cent in Vancouver and 12 per cent in Richmond.

“We have more work to do collaboratively with our City of Surrey, with the different BIAs in our city to encourage our members and residents in general,” explains Anita Huberman with the Surrey Board of Trade. “That showcase in terms of numbers means that we have more work to do.”

She’s still confident a lot of ballots will be mailed in but probably right around the due date of May 29th.

It doesn’t count anything already in the mail or ballots sent in that haven’t been processed.

Voting packages were sent out the week of March 16th.
