Scoliosis turning up in younger girls says local chiropractor

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – There are no magic pills, but there are certainly treatments that can help you live your healthiest life. Dr. Frank Antolcic is a Chiropractor at Westgate Wellness in Maple Ridge and he sees a variety of issues in his patients including Scoliosis, especially in younger girls.

Scoliosis is a sideways curve to the spine which is usually curved front to back. Dr. Antolcic suggests parents check their children’s development especially around the age of 12 because that is when it seems to start showing. And while he does not treat the Scoliosis, he does treat the person, “I find areas of the spine that aren’t working, adjust them, get them moving again and restore motion so the nervous system can work better.”

If someone is younger he says the severity can be a lot less, but he has had older patients with Scoliosis that have taken longer, but through digital x-rays after a course of care there is a change in a positive direction. And while we get set for summer fun and all of the leisure activities that come with it, there is always the possibility of throwing your back out. Dr Antolcic hears people complain about slipped disks, which he says are really disks that bulge out and back and that’s where the spinal cord is so it’s really more of a herniated disk.

And he says studies have found that a third of people have disk herniations – just from life. They have no symptoms until one day they do something, with the right amount of pressure, the right nerve and then boom. That’s where he comes in, with X-Rays he can see possible issues and then treat the patient to get the nervous system up and working again.
