‘Grow the Vote’ is the theme of the 4/20 rally in Vancouver: pot activist

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’ll probably see a grey haze over Vancouver’s Art Gallery on Monday afternoon because of the annual 420 rally. A Vancouver pot activist says you can expect this year’s event to be more political than ever before.

Dana Larsen with Sensible BC is hoping to get people more active in the fight to legalize marijuana. “The theme of this year’s 420 is “Grow the Vote” and we’re encouraging people to register as voters, there will be the opportunity to do so at the event.”

He argues it’s a very critical time with the federal election coming up in the fall of this year.

“This is the first election we’re going to see where marijuana is really going to be a priority issue and really a big part of the debate. The first election where it’s a going to be a very clear opportunity for those who support marijuana reform to get the Conservatives out of there and see some change and let’s see the federal government change these laws.”

With more marijuana dispensaries popping up around the Lower Mainland, he says it may seem like it’s already legal but adds the penalties around pot remain very strict.
