Canucks pushed to the brink of elimination

CALGARY,AB (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks are one game away from elimination at the hands of the Calgary Flames. Eddie Lack was chased from the crease after allowing three goals on seven shots in the opening period, and that’s all the Flames would need in a 3-1 win over the Canucks on Tuesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Ryan Miller was perfect in relief for Vancouver over the final two periods, but the Canucks were behind the 8 ball before the night even started. With no Alex Burrows or Brad Richardson, Vancouver’s vaunted penalty kill was torched by Calgary twice in the opening frame. Johnny Gaudreau got the party going for the Flames just 3:23 into the game.

Henrik Sedin would tie things up at one just five minutes later on the man-advantage, but some undisciplined penalties would cost the Canucks in the end. Calgary’s Jiri Hudler tipped the eventual game winning goal past Eddie Lack only 1:08 after Henrik had struck with the man-advantage to make it 2-1. Sam Bennett took credit for the third Calgary goal before the first period was out.

Ryan Miller played the final two periods in goal, and made 15 saves. Jonas Hiller stopped 28 of 29 Vancouver shots.

The Canucks can keep the season alive Thursday night in game 5 at Rogers Arena.

Alex Burrows is spending Tuesday night in a Calgary hospital after leaving the day’s morning skate with a reported rib injury.
