Canucks looking to force a Game 7 in Calgary tonight

CALGARY,AB (NEWS1130) – It’s the latest attempt for the Vancouver Canucks to keep the season alive, this time in Calgary for Game 6. (6pm, CBC)

Vancouver trails 3-2 in the series, but the overall consensus is the Canucks have yet to play their best game in Alberta.

“We got into a little bit of penalty trouble the last time we played here.” Vancouver’s Chris Higgins said following the morning skate.

“I think we’re confident in our 5 on 5 game. It’s the old cliche to keep your emotions in check. Hopefully that holds true for tonight.”

Ryan Miller is expected to start in goal after backstopping the Canucks to a Game 5 victory on Thursday night. Miller replaced Eddie Lack to begin the second period in game four, and has only given up one goal in five periods of work so far in the series.

“Since he’s come in, he’s been calm. He’s made some big saves at the right times.” said Canucks head coach Willie Dejardins.

“That’s what you need in Playoffs. I’m sure both teams are hoping their guy shows up tonight.”

Calgary’s Jonas Hiller made 41 saves in the Canucks 2-1 win in Game 5. The Canucks have dominated the puck in this series, but solving Hiller has proven to be a difficult task. It’s that possesion game that has the Flames most concerned.

“So far in this series, our young guys have been playing with a lot of emotion.” said Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman.

“I think they’ve been doing a good job of not running out of position. That’s something that we have to continue to do. When you start running around against a team like this, they can make you look pretty bad pretty quick.”

The Canucks are hoping to run the Flames back to Vancouver for a Game 7 on Monday night.
