Vancouver man charged in two sexual assaults on public transit

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Vancouver man has been arrested and charged in two apparent sexual assaults, about a week apart, on a bus.

Anne Drennan with Transit Police says a Japanese exchange student was the first victim.

In early April, she got on a bus in North Van headed to Vancouver, thereafter a man sat beside her even though the bus was a quarter full.

“The guy got on the bus, sat down beside her but he didn’t have to, the bus was only a quarter full and then for the next ten minutes touched her inappropriately even though she several times she tried to move away from him,” Drennan explains.

“He touched her repeatedly inappropriately and tried to put her hands in between his legs and to kiss her, she tried to rebuff his advances but he was extremely persistent, right until he got onto the bus at Main and Hastings.”

Exactly a week later another young woman came forward with the same story.

Transit Police managed to track down 27 year-old Mukesh Yasarapu who was arrested, charged and is expected in court on Wednesday.
