VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re hoping to contribute to your community in a volunteer role after retiring, becoming a nurse navigator could be a way to help.
Volunteer nurse navigators work with trained professionals, dropping in on seniors with chronic health issues to provide information and advice to help them to continue living an independent life.
UBC Okanagan has recently carried out a study on nurse navigators and found their use made a difference in boosting quality of life for seniors involved.
“The use of this nurse navigator had a substantial impact on how people experienced the things in relation to their quality of life,” says Professor Barbara Pesut, Canada Research Chair in Health, Ethics and Diversity.
The study was carried out over three years, and another is set to begin in Trail, Castlegar, and Nelson.
