Alberta election results could impact BC pipeline projects

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The result of the Alberta election could have an impact on which pipeline projects end up being built in BC, and at least one major project could be affected, according to OMNI TV’s political analyst.

During her campaign, newly elected Premier Rachel Notley stated Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Project, which has already been approved federally, would be a no-go under an NDP government, which she has now formed.

“The NDP in Alberta does not want Northern Gateway,” says OMNI TV political analyst Kim Emerson. “The NDP in Alberta is also looking at not supporting and lobbying for the Keystone Pipeline going through the United States.”

But Emerson notes the Alberta NDP isn’t against every pipeline planned for BC.

“What they are in favour of is the twinning of the Kinder Morgan pipeline going through British Columbia and through into Burnaby and Vancouver,” says Emerson.

On her first day on the job, Notley says she’s reaching out to leaders in the energy industry to reassure them everything is “A-OK.”
