West Vancouver backs sticker campaign to raise awareness of climate change

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You know driving your car isn’t great for the environment, so how would you like a reminder every time you gas up?

The District of West Vancouver has approved stickers, which go on gas pumps. They warn you of some of the possible effects of climate change, thanks to the fuel we use.

The text notes the possible impacts on children and wildlife, just to name a few.

To some — like the founders of Our Horizon, the group behind the initiative — the stickers are nothing more than part of a public awareness campaign.

But others aren’t so sure. The Canadian Convenience Stores Association tells the Vancouver Sun local government shouldn’t be able to force their view of climate change onto gas retailers.

Politicians in West Vancouver are going to bring the idea forward to the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in September and Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in 2016.
