TransLink’s Compass Card moving forward

VANCOUVER (NEWS130) – Nearly 60,000 more Compass Cards are being distributed to transit users. West Coast Express riders and another round of students are next.
Up to 50,000 more students will trade their UPasses for Compass Cards starting June 1st and TransLink will distribute cards to 7,500 West Coast Express riders starting June 8th.
“We will actually be handing the cards out ourselves, with our Customer Outreach teams, and be on hand there to answer any questions that they may have and also to show them how to tap on and tap off,” says Colleen Brennan with TransLink.
“You don’t have to stand in line to buy a monthly pass anymore, you don’t have to buy fare savers anymore and certainly you are not rooting around looking for change to pay so it really is about convenience. Being able to load your card on the website, at your own convenience,” she adds.
Compass vending machines will be installed at West Coast Express stations throughout June, at two stations per weekend.
TransLink expects 220,000 transit users to be using the tap-on, tap-off fare payment system by September.
There’s no word from TransLink on when the Compass Card will be launched system-wide.
