VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As we hear more and more about families being unable to afford buying a home in Vancouver, the city is trying to solve that issue along the Cambie Corridor.
Redevelopment plans aim to construct two to three bedroom homes within 10 minutes of the Canada Line.
General Manager of Planning and Development, Brian Jackson, says development in Marpole may help set the price point for the Cambie Corridor.
“We are working right now with a couple of developers in the Marpole area that have launched townhouse applications. They are definitely bringing individual townhouses onto the market this year for well under a million dollars.”
Jackson says there is no firm timeline for construction.
He says the city is currently in Phase 3 of development. “We’re going to start with consultation, with listening, understanding the community. We’re then going to start to draw up all the policies that we know apply to all of the city and see how they apply to this area, as well.”
Jackson includes a draft plan will then be developed and more consultation will take place.
Phase Four will include bringing forward the draft plan.
