Emergency personnel called to Cache Creek after storm

CACHE CREEK (NEWS1130) – The mayor of Cache Creek says his community has suffered a disaster after a powerful rainstorm.

John Ranta says the town is a mess of mud and debris thanks to flooding. He says it appears two homes were lost. “What I’m told is two mobile homes from the Riverside Trailer Park wound up getting swept into the river by debris that came down the hill on Old Cariboo Road.”

Ranta had a look at the town after the storm passed and was amazed at its impact, particularly on a walkway just beside a downtown bridge. “Soil that the sidewalk was sitting on is entirely gone so the sidewalk is kind of balancing in mid-air at the moment.”

Other homes were knocked off their foundations and still others have flooded basements. Even the fire hall had a muddy creek running through it during the height of the storm.

Fifty people are expected to be in need of emergency services.

The Trans Canada was closed until it was cleared of water and debris.
