VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The dad of a Port Coquitlam teen stabbed to death in 2006 says he only found out through the media about his son’s killer being released from prison.
Now Gord Penner isn’t surprised that Ryan Crossly has been charged with car theft and assault.
Those accusations stem from the month of April but it’s still unclear when Crossly was granted release. Penner says he wasn’t told because Crossly made it clear he would stay in Saskatchewan upon release so the father no longer needed to be in the loop.
He’s fighting to make sure others don’t go through the same thing.
“I have nothing to gain from this except to ensure that nobody else has to go through this hopefully and they can change some things. This is how victims get treated but I’m a stubborn bugger and I’m not giving up there’s no way. After nine years I’m not giving up now,” explains Penner.
Crossly stabbed 20-year-old Jesse Penner to death at a party in February of 2006. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was handed six years in prison but only had to be in there for five because of time already served.
