PITT MEADOWS (NEWS1130) – An 18-year-old is dead after the car she was driving veered off a rural road and into a water-filled ditch in Pitt Meadows last night.

It happened around 9 p.m. on Woolridge Road. The girl lost control of the car, which flipped and ended up in the ditch.

RCMP say the 17-year-old passenger managed to get her seatbelt off, but the driver was knocked unconscious and couldn’t do the same.

Before emergency crews arrived, witnesses tried to get the pair out of the Honda Civic.

They were both taken to the hospital, where the driver later died. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

Mounties are still trying to figure out why she lost control of the car.
