Woman sexually assaulted in her Vancouver home

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 21-year-old woman is recovering after she woke up this morning and found a man on top of her.

The sexual assault happened around West 22nd Avenue and MacDonald Street.

Vancouver Police Sergeant Randy Fincham says she quickly fought the attacker off and called 9-1-1.

“We are still conducting an investigation to determine how this person got in,” says Fincham.

“Understandably, with it getting warmer, people are leaving their windows open to let some fresh air in. There is a variety of locks you can get to prevent your windows from opening fully and prevent somebody from coming through.”

“It’s too early to tell what led to it, in this case,” he notes.

The woman wasn’t physically hurt but is distraught following the incident.

Police are still looking for the attacker; is described as an Asian man between 20 and 30 years old with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and a mask over his face.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at (604) 717-3117 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
