FLORIDA COURT CONTINUES BAIL HEARING FOR CANADIAN DIPLOMAT’S SON CHARGED WITH MURDER

A Miami court continues a bail hearing today for the teenaged son of a Canadian diplomat who is charged with murder. Marc Wabafiyebazu has pleaded not guilty to felony first-degree murder and other charges. The Ottawa teen was waiting March 30 outside an apartment when his 17-year-old brother Jean and another man were shot dead. Police do not allege the younger brother shot anyone — or even threatened to shoot anyone — but Florida law allows for the murder accessory charge for which he could be jailed for life if he was part of the armed robbery of the dealer. His lawyers are arguing the teen was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The officers were posing as women interested in sexual activities with children.

SURVIVORS SAY RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL REPORT ONLY FIRST STEP IN HEALING

The commission examining Canada’s Indian residential schools is poised to release a summary of its final report next week. About 150-thousand First Nations, Inuit and Metis children were taken from their families and forced to attend government schools over much of the last century. The commission heard testimony from seven-thousand survivors. One of the survivors, Mike Cachagee, was just four-and-a-half when he was taken from his home and sent to a residential school in northern Ontario. He says the commission report won’t ease the torment, saying survivors don’t need to heal, they need to “rebuild.”
