Long weekend camping reservations in BC nearly full

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re hoping to go camping this summer and haven’t reserved your spot at one of BC’s parks, you could have a hard time finding a spot to pitch your tent.

Most reservable spots are full for the long weekends throughout the season.

But Nathalie Dechaine with BC Parks adds about half of camping spots are first-come-first serve, so you may not be totally out of luck.

“I will say with a word of caution, however, the perks that are super popular — close to urban environment on the southern half of the province — some of them may be 100 per cent reservable,” she tells us.

“I do recommend people check the system frequently because plans change and some people might either shorten their stay or cancel their reservations altogether. So, inventory that might have already been booked might become available,” adds Dechaine.

She recommends going camping during the week rather than over a weekend, if you can.

Many campsites in Washington State — including all of the sites on Whidbey Island — are full for most weekends.
