Park Avenue Armory appoints head of Dutch National Opera as its new artistic director

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Park Avenue Armory has tapped the head of the Dutch National Opera as its artistic director.

Pierre Audi will come on board in October.

He’s a critically acclaimed artistic director known for supporting groundbreaking new work and reinventing classics.

He’ll continue to lead the Dutch opera where he’s been since 1988.

The Armory is known for staging large-scale immersive performances in its massive drill hall. President Rebecca Robertson says Audi will advance its mission to enable artists to create works that cannot be staged elsewhere in New York.

Audi was artistic director of the Holland Festival in Amsterdam from 2004 to 2014. He also founded London’s Almeida Theater.

He succeeds Alex Poots.

The Armory’s past performances include the final performances of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company across three stages.
