Whitecaps fall to Impact in first game of road trip

MONTREAL, QC (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps began a season-high five-match road trip with a 2-1 loss to the Montreal Impact in MLS play Wednesday evening. It was the third loss in four MLS games for the ‘Caps.

The struggling Impact got on the board in the 14th minute, as Jack McIlnerney beat David Ousted for his first goal of the season.

It remained a 1-0 lead for the home side until Jordan Harvey was taken down in the box in the 79th minute, which gave Vancouver a penalty kick. Pedro Morales made no mistake, as he buried it from the spot to tie the score 1-1.

The Impact took the lead right back though, as Ignacio Piatti took a pass inside the box from Andres Romero and slid it into the right side of the net for the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.

With the loss, the Whitecaps (7W-2D-6L) remain three points back of the Seattle Sounders for first place in the Western Conference.

The Whitecaps are out on the road until early July as the FIFA Women’s World Cup has taken control of BC Place.

Vancouver will continue its trip on Saturday night against the L.A. Galaxy.
