We need a nap and a vacation!

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Wipe the sleep out of your eyes and grab a coffee. It’s time to go to work!

New numbers show West Coasters are among the most sleep-deprived in Canada and we could probably use a long vacation.

For a lot of us, a full forty winks would be like a mini-holiday; a national sleep survey finds Vancouver is tied with Saskatoon (72%) for second in complaints about lack of snoozing, behind only grouchy Kitchener (75%).

Across the country, roughly 3.9 million people, or 26 per cent of the country’s work force, say they have called in sick to catch up on sleep, costing companies almost three quarters of a billion dollars in lost man hours.

Maybe some time on holiday would help?

An Angus Reid survey for InterContinental Hotels Group finds most Canadians (78%) don’t think a weekend away is enough time for a proper, rejuvenating summer vacation.

Most British Columbians (84%) say an ideal vacation needs to be longer than three days to begin to unwind.

We in BC are also the most likely in the country to ditch the kids, with about half (49%) saying they would like to vacation just themselves and their partner, taking time to focus on each other.

The survey finds six per cent of British Columbians never take a vacation.
