SUNRISE, FLA. (NEWS 1130) – He was a fan favourite, but he is no longer part of the Vancouver Canucks.
This morning GM Jim Benning traded goaltender Eddie Lack to the Carolina Hurricanes. In return, Vancouver gets a third-round pick in Day 2 of the NHL Draft as well as a seventh round pick next year.
Lack spoke to NEWS 1130 Sports from Ibiza shortly after the trade.
“I was kind of expecting something to happen for the last week or so. Honestly, right now, I’m just happy to know where I’m going to play and it’s going to be a great opportunity for me down there.”
“It’s weird, you know? I played for the organization for five years now but, I guess, it was time to move on and I’m really happy that Trevor [Linden] called me first. Obviously, there’s a lot of people in Vancouver that I’m going to miss.”
Lack says he’s going to miss the fans in Vancouver a lot. “They took me in from the start and we had a special relationship and it’s something that I’m going to miss. But I’m just excited to start with the Hurricanes and to start playing again.”
The 27-year-old Lack had a 34-30 record for the Canucks in 82 games over the past two seasons and a .917 save percentage in that time with a 2.45 goals-against average.
Earlier this week, Benning indicated either Lack or minor-league goaltender Jacob Markstrom would be traded before the 2015-16 season began.
