Bus company involved in Coquihalla crash to be audited

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The province will audit a bus company at the centre of a serious highway collision that landed more than three dozen people in hospital.

BC’s Transportation Ministry says its investigation of Universal Coach Lines will include a review of the company’s drivers.

Police say a tour bus rammed into a car and a tow truck that were parked on the shoulder of the Coquihalla Highway in BC’s Central Interior, about 40 kilometres south of Merritt, Saturday morning.

The car’s driver had called for a tow after hitting a deer.

The crash injured 38 people, three of whom were still in hospital as of Sunday afternoon.

Police say the tour bus guide and the tow truck operator suffered serious injuries but are expected to recover. The RCMP say charges are expected but that it could be weeks before any are laid.
