Some people living in an area of Kamloops hit by flash flooding yesterday can return home

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Roughly 100 people forced from their homes in a neighbourhood of Kamloops because of flash flooding due to a severe thunderstorm can now return. Some homes may still be without power.

Mayor Peter Milobar says the evacuation order for people living in the Oakdale mobile has been lifted, but the next step is to deal with the damage centered on a mobile home park.

“It was fairly extensive. I did have a chance for about an hour and a half to two hours to get out and tour through the area today and certainly a couple of the homes were very heavily hit.”

He says clean up and drying out will continue for the next couple of days.

Unlike intense flooding last July, he adds there wasn’t much damage to city infrastructure.

The province has stepped up with financial help for those impacted.
