Train goes off the tracks in New Westminster

By

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – Southern Railway says there is no cause for concern after a locomotive derailed in New Westminster this morning.

The company says the engine slid off the track when it went over a broken rail along Front Street around 3:30 a.m. It wasn’t going very fast and didn’t tip over and neither did the 20 rail cars behind it.

It took crews several hours to get the locomotive back on track and as a result Front Street was closed from Columbia Street West to Columbia Street East.

No one was hurt.
