Much of the smoke expected to clear out by end of the week

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Forest fires are still burning across BC but it looks like we’ll won’t have to deal with all the smoke for too much longer.

NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate expects most of the smoke to clear out by the end of the week.

“I’m sure you can already tell the concentration of the fine particles in the lowest levels of the atmosphere has been improving because our visibility is improving also. You can’t smell the smoke in as many spots around Metro Vancouver this morning,” says Lacate.

He tells us the smoke is becoming more concentrated in the Fraser Valley.

“Yesterday, we had more of westerly breeze aloft and it’s steering it further inland. I think that smoke actually becomes more widespread across the Southern Interior today, tomorrow, and perhaps for the tail end of the week.”

“Around these parts, we’re left with this curtain of haze; it’s here today and tomorrow,” says Russ. “The sun filters through and it’s still very warm, but the air quality is very slowly improving around Metro Vancouver. By the time we get to Thursday, it’s kind of a fresh breeze that blows; that’s the difference maker.”

Russ says a marine air is expected Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which should cool us down and may even bring a few rain showers.
