UBC adding extra security after voyeurism complaints

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Added security measures have been brought in to the UBC campus after reports of voyeurism.

There are reports a man was spotted looking through unlocked residence room doors at partially clothed students.

A third party security company has been brought in for more patrolling of the area.

Campus security has also added more personnel and RCMP as well are doing more patrol of the area throughout the evenings,” says Andrew Parr with UBC.

He says they are also asking anyone on the campus to be vigilant.

“One of the more difficult ones probably, because we’re polite Canadians, is that we’re asking them to not allow people to follow them into the building. Typically one would hold the door open for the person behind them. In this case, we’re asking that they say to the individual I’m sorry I can’t let you enter.”

Parr says it’s particularly concerning because most of the people at the campus right now are between the ages of 12 to 18 years old.
