Lulay powers the Lions to another win over the Roughriders

REGINA, SK (NEWS 1130) – The BC Lions got a great effort from quarterback Travis Lulay as they beat Saskatchewan for the second straight week with a 27-24 victory at Mosaic Stadium. Lulay tossed two touchdown passes and ran for 105 yards.

Lulay’s 105 yards on the ground were the most in a single game in his career. He also completed 12-of-21 pass attempts for 127 yards.

Rookie receiver A.C. Leonard caught both of Lulay’s touchdown passes. He got his first career touchdown on the Leos’ first drive of the game, as he capped it off with a five-yard catch in the endzone.

The Lions opened up a 16-4 lead early in the third quarter when Andrew Harris rumbled into the endzone from 15 yards out.

After Richie Leone added a rouge for BC to extend the lead to 17-4, the Roughriders scored their first touchdown of the game. Kevin Glenn hooked up with Chris Getzlaf for a 17-yard score. Leone then kicked his first field goal of the game as the Lions took a 20-11 advantage into the fourth quarter.

On the opening play of the fourth quarter, Leonard caught a two-yard pass from Lulay for his second score of the game. That would end up providing the winning points, as the Roughriders scored the final 13 points of the game on two Paul McCallum field goals and an Anthony Allen touchdown run.

The win gave the Lions a sweep of their home-and-home series. They beat the Roughriders 35-32 in overtime last Friday at BC Place.

The Leos (2-1) will return home for a game next Friday versus the Toronto Argonauts.
