Cascadia clash for the ‘Caps in Portland

PORTLAND (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps will try to get back on track in Portland Saturday night against the Timbers. (7:30pm)

Vancouver has dropped consecutive matches to Sporting Kansas City and Colorado, with last week’s loss to KC a squandered opportunity to take sole possesion of top spot in the Western Conference. The Whitecaps enter the weekend tied with Seattle and FC Dallas atop the West table.

Portland comes into this match with a loss in the rearview mirror the week before – 3-0 to Philadelphia – but that defeat is the only one for the Timbers in the last eight. Portland has also won five straight matches at home – with four clean sheets to boot.

Kendall Waston will not be available (international duty) for Vancouver, but Russell Teibert could be, having returned from Team Canada and the Gold Cup.

“It’s about performance and it’s about eleven players.” Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said earlier this week.

“We’ll make a couple of changes, we know that. We win together, we lose together. I’ve got confidence in this group we can go (to Portland) and put on a good performance. If you put on a good performance, you’re likely to get a result.” Robinson added.

Both Vancouver and Portland are two points back of Seattle in the Cascadia standings. Vancouver has gotten results against Portland twice this season – a win, and a draw. This match-up is the final head to head clash between the two this season.
