Community of Dawson Creek coming to terms with police-involved shooting

DAWSON CREEK (NEWS 1130) – People living in Dawson Creek are still coming to terms with a police-involved shooting following a Site C BC Hydro dam meeting this week.

Mayor Terry McFadyen says people in the community are shocked something like this would happen in the small community, but he doesn’t think it will have an impact on Site-C dam meetings in the future.

“I suspect we’ll continue to have them and I would think that this was an extremely isolated incident. Nobody seems to know who, how, what, when or why quite frankly,” he explains. “The feedback I’m getting is people are upset and concerned that this would happen at an open public forum in town. It was a BC Hydro public consultation and they have them all the time to update the public on what’s happening with Site-C.”

McFadyen says the person shot outside the hotel where the meeting took place was never even in the building. It was initially reported a man who caused quite a disturbance in the meeting left, and was then shot by police outside.
