VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As Metro Vancouver moves into Stage 3 water restrictions, we’re learning the City of Vancouver has handed out 1,400 warnings and 30 $250 tickets to violators.
Jerry Dobrovolny, the city’s acting general manager of engineering, says the priority remains education rather than penalizing those who flout the rules.
“We don’t have a lot of sympathy for people violating the lawn sprinkling rules. And it’s very obvious. You will see now blocks and blocks of lawns go brown,” he tells us.
Under Stage 3 restrictions, all lawn watering is banned. Washing boats and cars on your property is also a no-go, as is filling swimming pools or hot tubs.
Surrey has handed out 800 warnings and just four $250 fines.
