BC wildfires still burning despite rain

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Even with the wetter weather, there are still nearly 200 wildfires burning in BC.

Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says the forecast is encouraging. “So the precipitation we are seeing today is a certainly a much welcomed relief and we are expecting to see more precipitation over the weekend especially in the southern part of the province.”

Turcot notes we aren’t out of the woods yet. “We do have campfire bans in place in four of the six fire centres so it’s crucial that they are abiding by those and even if they are not. Just being safe with your campfire, making sure you have water and or a hand tool to extinguish it.”

Turcot adds they are paying particular attention to fires at Westside Road near Kelowna which is 25 per cent contained and Puntzi Lake where crews have contained around two thirds of the fire.
