Little girl found dead in Howe Sound; father still missing

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Coast Guard says the search effort is over, and it’s now a missing persons case, after a six-year old girl was found dead in Howe Sound over the weekend, with no trace of her father on the family boat.

The girl’s 60-year-old father still hasn’t been found and the Coast Guard has handed the investigation over to the RCMP.

Search crews were called out around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The girl’s body was found in Howe Sound near Gambier Island Saturday night, shortly after the abandoned boat was discovered.

Crews searched until last night for her father, who had also been on the 20-foot aluminium boat.

They were also looking along the shoreline, in case the man’s body had washed ashore.

So far, the death is not considered suspicious.

“While there is no indication of foul play at this time, we have not ruled anything out, and are working diligently to try to find out what happened,” says Constable Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP.
