PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – Following several large sinkholes along the construction of the Evergreen Line in Port Moody, we’re now learning it’s going to be awhile until crews can use an important piece of equipment.
Maintenance of the tunnel boring machine is ongoing at Seaview and Clarke Road in Port Moody, but it will be later in August before crews are allowed to use it again.
But repairs are going well, says Amanda Farrell, project director with the Evergreen Line. She says it’s taken them a few months to fix it, “to ensure the safety of the crews and the machine and also to ensure the stability of the ground around the machine.”
“We’re using some new methods. It takes some time, but it does ensure that safety is there,” she adds.
She expects crews will be able to use the machine again by mid to late August.
Farrell doesn’t think this delay will cause further setbacks in the construction of the transit line, which is expected to be running by fall of 2016.
