Cascadia battle in Seattle for the Whitecaps

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The two time defending Cascadia Cup Champion Whitecaps are putting the trophy on the line tonight in Seattle, as they take on the Sounders at Century Link Field (7pm). Seattle has a one point lead over Vancouver in the Cascadia standings, and can clinch the title with a win, but the ‘Caps still have a chance to force a final showdown at BC Place in September for the crown.

This is also the first of two matches this week between the clubs, with a CONCACAF battle looming later in the week.

Vancouver has fared well on the road all season, and currently trail FC Dallas by only two points for top spot in the western conference.

Seattle has struggled to find the net over the last month, and have dropped six of seven matches coming in, but have fared well at Century Link, compiling a record of 7-3-1.

“This year, more than any other year, there’s such a fine line between where we are right now in second place.” Whitecaps President Bob Lenarduzzi told NEWS 1130 earlier this week.

“If in fact you win a couple of games, you can separate yourself from the pack. If the opposite occurs, and you lose a couple games, you’re hanging on to a playoff spot.”

Vancouver is looking to build on last week’s 3-1 win over San Jose, but will be without Mauro Rosales – a groin injury will keep him out of action on Saturday night.
