Whitecaps and Sounders play to 1-1 draw at BC Place

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It was a mixed result for the Whitecaps in their first ever CONCACAF Champions League game playing to a 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders. The two teams rested most of their starters and you could tell.

The first half was very sloppy for the two teams. Neither squads could find the back of the net and in the case of the Whitecaps, they couldn’t even hit the net registering no shots on net.

In the second half the Caps broke through in the 61st minute to the delight of the more then 19,000 in attendance. Tim Parker back heeled a corner kick from Pedro Morales past the Sounders keeper to open the scoring. It was Parker’s first goal of the season and he says the moment will stick with him.

“Obviously it was a great feeling. To get my first professional goal and to do it at home is even better. It is something I am going to remember.”

The lead was short lived as just ten minutes later, the Sounders equalized with a goal from Lamar Neagle. It was the first goal Seattle had scored in 430-minutes.

“There is definitely positives out of this game,” says Parker, “We wanted to win at home. We got the tie and we will go from there.”

The Whitecaps are back in action on Saturday hosting Real Salt Lake at BC Place, trying to expand their lead in the MLS Western Conference. Vancouver’s next CONCACAF Champions League game is not until September 16th when the Caps host the Honduran team CD Olimpia.

Seattle, CD Olimpia and Vancouver will play each other twice, with the top team advancing to the next round starting in early 2016.
