Andrew Harris leads the Lions to a win over Edmonton

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Running back Andrew Harris scored his second touchdown of the night with just 1:11 to play and Edmonton didn’t score in the second half as the BC Lions rallied for a 26-23 win over the Eskimos at BC Place.

The Lions got off to a great start for the third game in a row. Travis Lulay connected with Manny Arceneaux for a 46-yard touchdown on the Leos’ opening offensive drive of the game. Edmonton kicked a pair of field goals in the first quarter as BC led 7-6 heading to the second.

Edmonton’s Matt Nichols tossed two touchdown passes in the second half to give the Eskimos a lead at half-time. Nichols hit Chad Simpson for a 49-yard score, and then Kenny Stafford for a 25-yard touchdown, while Edmonton’s Grant Shaw and BC’s Richie Leone traded field goals, making for a 23-10 Eskimo lead.

BC got back within six points with an early touchdown in the third quarter. Andrew Harris finished off a drive with a one-yard touchdown run to cut Edmonton’s lead to 23-17.

After Richie Leone added a single point for the Lions on a missed field goal, BC took the lead back with just over a minute left. Lulay tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Harris and then connected with Shawn Gore for a two-point conversion to make it 26-23.

Edmonton worked the ball into range for a 48-yard field goal for Shaw with less than a minute to play, but head coach Chris Jones elected to go for it on third down instead and Nichols was intercepted.

The result snapped a two-game losing streak for the Lions (3-3) and also broke a four-game winning streak for Edmonton (4-2).

The Lions will be back in action Aug. 15 when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
