Low Canadian dollar helps boost Whistler’s foodie reputation

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – Can Canadian resort communities take advantage of our low dollar?

‘Foodie vacations’ may be one of the draws for Americans coming to Whistler.

It’s been five years since the 2010 Olympics brought extra attention to the village, some say Americans are only now discovering summer trips where the greenback gives more bang for the buck than places south of the border.

Kristy Mitchell is with Whistler Tasting tours and says the business is doing well.

“Those visitors who saw us in the Olympics have now been able to save their money and come and travel from all parts of the World. We want to show them more than skiing. We want to show them our culinary talents lie as well.”

She says Whistler features foods from all over the world but most dishes at Whistler’s better restaurants have a chef’s spin or take on the food.

Whistler Blackcomb Holdings admits a decline in this year’s ski visits has been offset by other trips to the resort.
