Whitecaps ready for Salt Lake

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Western Conference-leading Whitecaps are set to host Real Salt Lake and enter tonight’s match in fine form.

In league play, Vancouver is unbeaten in three matches and have claimed two straight wins. If the ‘Caps come away with a win against RSL, they would match their Major League Soccer record with 13 on the season.

Vancouver’s most recent MLS result was a 3-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC last weekend at CenturyLink Field.

The Whitecaps made a pair of roster moves on Friday. They loaned striker Eric Hurtado to a Norwegian club for the rest of the year, while they brought in 24 year old defender Jordan Smith on loan from a Costa Rican club. Coach Carl knows exactly what type of player Smith is. “He’s an attacking fullback. He likes to get forward. He’s very athletic. He’s strong. He’s physical and that’s an area we needed to strengthen a little bit. I’m excited to see him progress. He’s a young player, but a young player who’s played nearly 100 games.”

Currently, Real Salt Lake is just below the red line in the Western Conference after a 6-4 loss to D.C. United last weekend.

This will be the third and final meeting between Vancouver and RSL this season.

The ‘Caps are going for the sweep, having defeated RSL 1-0 on April 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium and 2-1 on May 30 at BC Place.

Vancouver’s all-time record against the Claret and Cobalt is 4-5-4. The ‘Caps are unbeaten in the last five meetings between the two teams.

Kick-off at 7 p.m.
