Lions get blown out in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ON (NEWS 1130) – Perhaps it’s a good thing the BC Lions have a short week ahead of them before taking on the Montreal Alouettes at BC Place on August 20th. It will give them a reason to forget about Saturday’s disheartening (score) defeat at the hands of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

BC dug a hole early in this game and never recovered. Brandon Banks got it started for Hamilton with a 44 yard catch and run touchdown early in the first quarter. Banks also made three Lion defenders – including Solomon Elimimian – miss before taking it to the house. Andrew Harris fumbled on the Lions next possesion, and TiCats defender Eric Norwood scooped and scored to make it 14-0 before the Lions knew what hit them.

Hamilton would continue to pour it on before the half, and eventually led 31-10. Travis Lulay found Austin Collie for a touchdown a few minutes before the 2nd quarter let out.

Lulay was eventually pulled in this game in favour of John Beck, and Beck did find Collie for a touchdown pass late in the 4th quarter, but the game was completely out of reach by that point.

Of much more concern for the Lions will be the health of reigning M.O.P Soloman Elimimian. The linebacker suffered an injury in the third quarter and did not return, with early reports out of Lions camp indicating it’s a right ankle strain.

With the victory, the Tiger-Cats improve to 10-0 all time at Tim Hortons Field, and 5-2 on the season.
