VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Heading back to class means buying more than just pencils and paper.
In Part Four of our five-part “Back To School” series, we are looking at benefits of investing in a tablet.
One plus: They are usually less expensive than a traditional computer or laptop, but can be extremely useful for students.
Technology writer Marc Saltzman tells us while they can still come with a high pricetag, parents should look at tablets as an investment that can grow with their child.
He recommends the Surface 3 — which is a laptop and tablet in one — which goes for about $640.
“It’s great for your 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and your 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. downtime. It’s upgradable to Windows 10 for free and it includes one year’s worth of Microsoft office.”
But he adds if you don’t have a Surface tablet, you could still be eligible to get Microsoft office for free through your school.
Saltzman says a tablet is a very versatile device and the Surface isn’t one of those tablets that will only last a year and students could start using something like this in Grade 5.
