NDP support in BC and across Canada is up: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The NDP is continuing to expand on its lead here in this province ahead of October’s federal election, according to a new poll.

The survey from EKOS Politics points to 38 per cent support for the NDP, while the Conservatives sit in second with 28 per cent of those responding saying they’d vote for Stephen Harper’s party.

“The NDP’s position has been improving in British Columbia pretty steadily for some time now,” says EKOS president Frank Graves. “It’s not a blip.”

The Liberals remain in third place in BC with the backing of 24 per cent of participants.

“BC looks like you’ve got a solid NDP lead, and then the other parties are very much back of the NDP, who look like they’re going to win quite a few seats there,” says Graves.

He tells us the Duffy trial finally seems to be registering with voters.

“Not only did it seem to produce a fair bit of attention, but it also seems to be having a corrosive impact on Mr. Harper’s approval ratings, and [perception of] the competence and direction of his government,” says Graves.

Nationally, the NDP continues its lead in the polls, with 33 per cent of those responding saying they’ll back Tom Mulcair’s party.
