Storm will take weeks to clean up

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The mess left from the windstorm that swept through the south coast will take weeks to clean up.

This is one of the more extreme storms we’ve seen the past decade. That from the Deputy Manager for the City of Vancouver, Sadhu Johnston, who says they are working to remove the bigger trees from the streets first.

He believes the city prepared well by telling businesses and homeowners to be ready.

“What we were able to do well is ramp up quickly,” says Johnston. “It doesn’t make sense to have all of our operations at full capacity all of the time. We just can’t sustain that.”

Johnston believes they will learn lessons from this storm, just as they did in 2006.

“Many lessons learned, more we can do to improve, but overall I would say city staff are proud of our efforts so far and we’re going to continue to work on behalf of our residents to repair and clean up from the storm.”
