Girl Guides seeking donations to restock firewood supplies

Vancouver (NEWS1130) – Do you still have fallen trees on your property? There’s a way to get rid of all that storm blow-down and help thousands of local girls.

In light of the windstorm the Girl Guides are seeking donations to restock their firewood supplies for their winter chalet on Cypress.

Normally they get donations for their properties but Diamond Isinger with the Girl Guides says that’s not the case this year.

“We have sources that we get wood for our camping season but this year our sources fell through so it was conveniently timed to put an appeal out to the public.”

The collection is important in more ways than one. “We teach all of our girls to use resources wisely and so we hope to some of these resources around us to support the activities that we’re doing,” she says.

Isinger says they do camping year around. “[In order to] run many of those activities we require some firewood for powering everything for campfires to wood stoves and everything in between.”

She says volunteers prepare firewood for the months ahead and for drying for future seasons.
