VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – More than 675 tree-related calls were made to the City of Vancouver’s 3-1-1 line over the weekend.
Staff will be assessing the damage to trees in parks and along city streets, says John Coupar, chair of the Vancouver Park Board. “And then we’ll determine a plan, moving forward — a re-planting plan.”
“Dollars for tree-planting normally come out of capital [budgets] so it may be that the Board will be asking… the City for some additional funds.”
“Some of these would have been fairly large trees,” he notes.
Coupar adds the final price tag depends on the variety of tree, the location, and what kind of equipment is used.
Coupar says they are working to replace some of those trees.
“We are in the assessment phase really right now and I think that obviously our goal is to plant more trees and increase the urban canopy so we are certainly aligned with that. Just the details [need to be worked out]. Our team will come to the Park Board and we will have more information as the time goes on.”
