Desperation setting in for the BC Lions ahead of game against Montreal

By

MONTREAL (NEWS 1130) – The BC Lions are hoping the bye week served as a wake up call for their season. The Leos enter tonight’s game in Montreal against the Alouettes with a 3-5 record following back-to-back losses. The last loss coming at the hands of Montreal. Head Coach Travis Lulay says playing them so soon after the defeat will give them a great chance for revenge.

“I think we are going to be facing a team that will probably be more confident then when they first came to us, having come off a very big win in Hamilton. You don’t often get an opportunity like this to play a team that just beat you. Often times when that happens as a competitor you says I would like to lineup against these guys right now and we get that chance.”

The Lions staple over the last few seasons has been their strong defensive play, but in the last two games they have conceded 75-points. Defensive Back Ryan Phillips says the team knows they are entering a crucial stretch of the season and the defence needs to step up.

“We have to be realistic about where we are at right now. We have to make sure we turn this thing around. This is a crucial part of the season. There is no more refreshers or bye weeks so we need to get the ball rolling and make sure we put our best foot forward with the best guys available to play so that we can get a win.”

The Lions will have a new face in the lineup. Lavelle Hawkins will make his debut at the receiver position. He has fully recovered after suffering an arm injury in training camp. The NFL veteran signed with the Leos in the offseason.

History is not on the Lions side tonight. BC has not won in Montreal since 2010, and the Leos have lost six of the last seven games in that city.

Today’s kick off is at 4:30 p.m.
