NDP again promising $1.3 billion per year for transit in Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The NDP was outside the Canada Line station at Broadway and Cambie in Vancouver this morning, touting the party’s plan for transit.

Mira Oreck is the candidate for the new riding of Vancouver-Granville. She says if the NDP forms government, there will be $1.3 billion a year for buses, trains and infrastructure over the next two decades.

“Cities don’t have the ability to plan. They’re desperate for transit. We know that, particularly here in Vancouver, but across the region. What the funding is prepared to do is be there for cities to actually know it’s coming so that they finally have a federal partner.”

She says cities across the country are desperate for consistent, long-term transit funding.

Four-time BC MP Nathan Cullen was on-hand, supporting Oreck.

Cullen says he has also been speaking to small business owners after Liberal leader Justin Trudeau suggested they were trying to avoid paying taxes.

“I think a lot of them are quite offended, actually. It’s an insulting thing. Business owners need help, not insults. I think Mr. Trudeau actually should apologize for what he had to say.”

Cullen says he’s been getting a positive response from the business community.
