Sportsnet is the new home of Rogers Hometown Hockey

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Celebrating our community and celebrating our game.

Rogers Hometown Hockey is back for another year, winding its way through 24 communities across Canada, including four stops in BC.

The weekend hockey celebrations kick off October 9-11 in Kitchener, Ontario, jam-packed with activities for for all ages, highlighting the best of each town and its deep hockey roots.

“We’ve made it bigger and better, offering even more to Canadians,” says co-host Tara Slone, who returns alongside Ron MacLean on the national broadcast, which has moved to Sportsnet this year.

“There are a ton of interactive activities for the whole family throughout each Saturday and Sunday, opportunities to meet some of their heroes, listen to Q&As, sometimes participate in clinics and then it all culminates on the Sunday with a live broadcast from the community,” she tells NEWS 1130.

Rogers Hometown Hockey will hit the West Coast starting in February with the festival setting up in New Westminster on Valentine’s Day weekend, followed by Abbotsford on February 20-21 and then Victoria the following weekend. Penticton will host the celebration in March.

At the heart of the show is Ron MacLean, telling stories from each community.

“We know that hockey is so important to towns across the country and we just want to highlight that. It’s what — from a sports perspective — brings people together in Canada,” says Slone.

“Ron hosts each and every Sunday night. This is his thing, his show, and there is no better story-teller in this country, especially when it comes to hockey. He has such a passion and encyclopedic knowledge. He loves these stories and he loves these communities.”

Tune in every Sunday to Sportsnet — the new home of Rogers Hometown Hockey — starting October 11.
